Existing plans and elevations – buy the drawings of your property online
“Existing plans” are scaled drawings of a building as it stands today: the floor plans and elevations that show what is already built, before any proposed changes. Every planning application, permitted development enquiry and building regulations submission in the UK starts with them. Surway lets you buy existing property plans that have already been measured, instead of paying for a fresh survey visit.
What you receive
Why buy existing plans rather than commission a survey?
- Faster – no site visit to arrange. Files are released to the Downloads area of your account immediately after payment and remain available for one year.
- Cheaper – you pay for drawings, not for a surveyor’s day. No VAT is added.
- Accurate – the drawings come from a real measured survey, not a scaled-up estate-agent floor plan.
- Reusable – you keep download access for a year, so you can share the files with your architect, builder and structural engineer.
Who uses existing property plans?
Homeowners
Planning a rear extension, side return, loft conversion or garage conversion? Your designer will ask for existing plans and elevations on day one. Having them ready removes a week or more from the programme.
Architects and architectural technicians
Skip the measured survey stage on projects where the data already exists. Download the DXF, drop it into your CAD template and move straight to design.
Builders, developers and estate agents
Price jobs accurately, prepare feasibility layouts for a purchase, or supply buyers with drawings of a property you are marketing.
Do you have plans for my house?
Surway holds measured survey data supplied by our own surveyors and by approved vendors across the UK. Coverage grows every week as new surveys are completed and listed. The only way to know is to search: enter the postcode, add the house number or name, and the result tells you instantly whether existing plans are for sale. If nothing is listed yet, the same screen lets you request a new measured survey and receive a fixed quote.
Can I also get house plans from the council?
Sometimes. Local planning authorities publish drawings submitted with previous applications, and you can search their planning portals for free. The catch is that many homes have never had an application, older drawings are often scanned at low quality without a usable scale, and you will not get a CAD file. Surway is built for the cases where you need reliable, editable existing plans quickly.
