Measured building survey – floor plans and elevations for your property
A measured building survey records the existing dimensions of a building and turns them into accurate scaled drawings: floor plans, elevations and, where needed, sections. Architects, planning consultants and builders need these “existing” drawings before they can design an extension, loft conversion, change of use or refurbishment, and most local planning authorities will not validate an application without them.
Surway is a measured survey marketplace. Instead of booking a surveyor blind, you first search your postcode. If a measured survey has already been carried out at your property, you can buy the existing plans and elevations straight away as a PDF + DXF package. If not, you request a new survey and we send you a fixed quote that includes the site visit.
What a Surway measured building survey includes
When you need a building survey with measured drawings
- Planning applications – householder and full applications require existing and proposed plans and elevations at a stated scale.
- Extensions and loft conversions – your designer needs accurate existing drawings before proposed drawings can be produced.
- Permitted development and lawful development certificates – the council checks the proposal against the measured existing building.
- Building regulations and structural design – engineers work from measured plans and sections.
- Lease plans, refurbishment and interior design – any work that depends on real dimensions rather than estate-agent floor plans.
Existing survey vs. new survey – which will you get?
Path A: the survey already exists
Homes change hands and owners change plans. If Surway or one of our approved surveyors has already measured your property, the drawings are listed against the address. You log in, pay by card through Stripe, and the files are released to the Downloads area of your account immediately after payment. You keep download access for one year.
Path B: a new measured survey is needed
If no data exists, use the request button on the search result. Tell us the address and what the drawings are for. We reply with a fixed quotation covering the site visit, the measured survey and the drawing production. Once you accept, we book the visit; your plans and elevations are then delivered through the same account download area.
How much does a measured building survey cost?
The price depends on the size and complexity of the building, how many floors are involved and whether sections or roof plans are required. Buying existing drawings is always cheaper than commissioning a new visit, which is why we ask you to search first. New surveys are quoted individually so you are never paying for drawings you do not need. There are no hidden fees and no VAT on top.
Where we survey
Surway is based in Hayes, West London (UB3) and carries out measured building surveys across Hillingdon, Ealing, Hounslow, Harrow, Slough, Uxbridge, Southall, Greenford and the wider London and Home Counties area. Existing drawings can be purchased for any UK address that appears in our search, and approved surveyors anywhere in the UK can list their measured survey data on the marketplace.
Sell your measured survey data
Are you a surveyor, architect or architectural technician holding measured survey drawings that clients no longer need? Surway lets approved vendors upload PDF, DXF and image files against a property address. Every listing is checked by our team before it goes live, and vendors are paid for each sale through the platform. Apply through your Surway account.
